CJSF 90.1 FM TO GIVE HOMELESS A RADIO VOICE, LOCALLY, NATIONALLY and ON TWITTER
February 22,2011 (Burnaby BC). Campus and Community Radio Station CJSF 90.1 FM to Broadcast two Live Remote Broadcasts with the goal of giving those affected by Homelessness a voice. Both shows can be heard on 90.1 FM Vancouver and online cjsf.ca
Local Broadcast: Tuesday February 22, 2010, 7pm-8pm (PST) – Vancouver, BC Downtown Eastside
Show Topic: Disability, Youth and Homelessness
This show will be broadcast from Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside at Gallery Gachet (88 East Cordova) and will focus on homeless issues for people with disabilities and Youth. Guests on this program include Paul Caune, founder of Civil Rights Now and members of the Youth Action Squad (YAS) and the Greater Vancouver Shelter Strategy. John Pippus, a local singer songwriter will be a musical guest. The general public is welcome to attend this broadcast at no cost.
National Broadcast Wednesday February 23 9-11pm (PST) – Streets of Maple Ridge, BC
Show Topic: Homelessness in Suburbia
As part of the National Homelessness Marathon, CJSF will be broadcasting the second hour 10-11pm of its program on the National Community and Campus Radio Network. Where approximately 30 stations across the country will pick up the feed. This broadcast is in collaboration with the Canadian Mental Health Association – Simon Fraser Region. CJSF 90.1 FM will be broadcasting live from the streets of Maple Ridge at 22362 Lougheed Highway. By doing the show outdoors we attempt to showcase the conditions that people who are homeless experience on a day to day basis. Live musicians Christina Alconcel and Ron Janzen will be participating. The general public is welcome to attend this at no cost.
In 2010, CJSF won a National Award for its Homelessness broadcasts. Both shows will be hosted by J Peachy of Sound Therapy Radio. Twitter users can interact and pose questions on #soundtherapyradio.

About the 9th annual Homelessness Marathon
The ninth annual Homelessness Marathon will once again serve up 14 hours of people-powered radio, broadcasting this year from multiple cities across Canada. With the goal of being a consciousness-raising event, the Marathon will provide an opportunity for homeless people and their allies to take to the airwaves, and allow a nationwide discussion on homelessness issues and possible solutions.
