Since January 2010, The Western Division of Operation Sock Monkey (OSM) at Keith Lynn Alternative Secondary School has been using sock monkeys as therapeutic and philanthropic tools. Youth-at-risk experience profound comfort and joy when making sock monkeys. They may keep their creations or donate them to OSM. So far 200+ sock monkeys have been made by students, staff and the community. In June 2010 we shipped 40 sock monkeys to Kwa-Zulu Natal. On October 20, 2010, 40 more sock monkeys were shipped to headquarters for fundraising. 150 were displayed in the Downtown Eastside this past summer. The sock monkeys in Kwa-Zulu Natal are being used as part of Clowns Without Borders South Africa residency programs teaching the power of play in guardian-child relationships.

While CJ has now been released, the authorities have now added her to their database. She has accepted that being a political dissident and social activist has made her a target. She has been asked by her counsel to only speak through one trusted source, which is myself (woot, woot).

So please excuse her if she appears rude. We know CJ will never be truly free, however we can all fight with her in causes she believes in, if we choose. You can always strongly voice your opinion fully knowing that she won’t talk behind your back or in front of it. Because she can’t, someone has actually sewed her mouth shut.

That being said CJ will assiduously live the best life she can under the circumstances. She says each should value the choice you have while you can. The story continues, but we thank you for all your love!

So I’m at this airport and I go through one of those new full body scanners. I was fine but my carry-on flagged some alarms, so they emptied all my stuff out. They preceeded to take a few items; a book, bottle of vitamins and my recently acquired Sock Monkey named CJ. They let me through, get my info however have now taken my newfound friend in for chemical testing. Apparently it has contraband on it??? Umm, Really? No word on when I get it back, just like call in 12 hours or something.

C’mon its just a harmless Sock Monkey, give it back. They’ve DETAINED my Sock Monkey pffft. Well, I took some videos of the whole thing, I’ll post it when I get a chance.

I’m posting more details, including videos as I get them, on the facebook group. Please Free CJ!

Radio Interview this morning

Video footage from last Thursday’s events:

In the last episode of ‘Art of the Mind’ we had Art Therapist Kat Thorsen in the studio. Her and Art Student Hannah Pettinato left us a wonderful gift; a Sock Monkey, who has now made a new home here at CJSF 90.1 FM. We have now named her ‘CJ’ and is the official Sound Therapy Radio mascot. She will be hanging out in the studio, so feel free to say hi, feed her bananas, hang out or take her clubbing with you. CJ’s has already found her way around the studio and is hard at work creating some great content.
