In time for Mother’s Day, on this episode of Art of the Mind we are talking about Women’s Mental Health. This episode also marks the
debut of newest Sound Therapy Radio host Ana Bedard.

Sarah Numada

Musician Sarah Numada performs live in studio. She recently arrived in Vancouver and feeling very at home. In honour of Mother’s Day, Sarah, and hosts Jay and Ana, discuss the mental health and how it differs for our mother’s. Jay shares his personal experience of seeing his mother in a mental health crisis which was related to her menopause.

Over the phone we talk to Elaine Willis, who is an advocate for people with all types disabilties. This interview sparks another discussion between Sarah Jay and Ana, about the importance of having support during the dark times of life.

We also have an inspiring interview with Gillian Mulvale, from the Mental Health Commission of Canada, on her experience with post partum depression. She talks not only about her mental illness, but also on the stumbling blocks that she encountered, as a woman, while seeking treatment. She concludes with words of wisdom for those still learning how to cope with and overcome their own disorders.

Sound Therapy Radio welcomes Ana to the airwares.

Ana Bedard is a Vancouver based writer and an avid supporter of the local arts community. She has an interest in local alternative media, having volunteered with CITR and W2 in the past. She is excited about combining a number of passions including, art, mental health awareness and spoken word radio. Currently studying Psychology at the University of British Columbia, she is also a self-proclaimed Russophile. Ms. Bedard prides herself in having taken every Russian literature course that UBC offers. Ana also mentors burgeoning young writers at the secondary school she attended. Ms. Bedard can be also seen committing random acts of freelance writing throughout Vancouver, so be on the lookout.

Ana’s lifelong dream is to become an extensively published addictions counsellor and part-time belly dancer! We’re excited to have Ana on board, there will be no doubt that her knowledge and passion will be sprinkled throughout our programs.
